Happy New Year – when was the last time you cleaned up your computer?

Print Friendly

As we pack up from the Holidays we often do some extra cleaning.  What about your computer?

Wonder how to go about cleaning out your computer? Many people do, because it’s not unusual to have your hard disk filled with games and other programs you no longer need. In fact, some technology analysts believe that we use less than 10 percent of the programs installed on our computers.

What about the all elusive BACKUP?  So many clients have found themselves either not backing up at all or they have not tested their backup to see if they would actually restore if needed.

We constantly see client’s computers that have extra toolbars loading with their browsers and they don’t know how they got there.  There are plenty of malware as well as programs that we often used (like Adobe) that also install toolbars.  Becoming aware of those checkboxes that are already checked by the software providers will help you opt out of these types of installs.  Of course you’ve kept your virus software updated, correct?

Lastly, the cleanliness of your keyboard and screen are important as well.  Here is a great article BY MICHAEL OLIVEIRA, THE CANADIAN PRESS 5 ways to clean up your computer and get it like new again that we encourage you to read and apply.

Wishing you the very best of 2013!
